Driver in her 60s spins into road sign at Ruxley roundabout in Foots Cray

A DRIVER in her 60s spun and crashed into a road sign on a busy roundabout in Foots Cray this afternoon.

Her grey Ford Fiesta was heading round the Ruxley roundabout at around 2.30pm when she reportedly clipped the kerb twice before ending up half on and half off a traffic island perpendicular to Edgington Way.

Her car struck the base of a road sign at low speed, right by the Ford Transit of Downham carpenter Ray Webber who was looking to enter the roundabout from the other direction.

The 64-year-old, who lives in Cotton Hill, told News Shopper: “I thought she was going to come straight into me but she stopped there luckily.

“I didn’t see any cuts or bruises or anything and she got out of the car ok but she was complaining about pain in her stomach as she had recently had an operation.

“She seemed to come round at normal speed but I think maybe she could have blacked out or something considering she’s already hit the kerb.”

Two fire engines, police and ambulance crews attended and traffic was stopped from heading towards Crittal’s Corner for around half an hour.

The driver was treated for minor injuries at the scene and did not have to be taken to hospital.
