Lee Rigby murder trial: Accused pair drove through Woolwich before soldier was killed
CCTV tracked Lee Rigby's alleged murderers driving twice through Artillery Place in Woolwich shortly before the soldier was killed there, the Old Bailey heard today.
Michael Adebolajo, aged 28, of Oakwood Close, Hither Green, and Michael Adebowale, aged 22, of Thames Street, Greenwich, are charged with murdering the fusilier as he walked back to Woolwich Barracks on May 22.
Jurors were shown a series of CCTV images today, beginning with a shot of Adebolajo entering Argos at Lewisham Shopping Centre on May 21, where he bought five knives and a knife sharpener.
On the morning of May 22, cameras showed him travelling in a purple Vauxhall Tigra into Greenwich town centre before he picked up Adebowale and the pair drove back to Adebolajo's home in Oakwood Close shortly before 10am.
At around 1pm, the pair left together, driving through Eltham and across the Yorkshire Grey roundabout towards Woolwich, jurors heard.
The car was then pictured driving twice through Artillery Place and the spot where Fusilier Rigby was later killed.
A further scene showed the car parked in Wellington Street, Woolwich, just before 2pm, facing the junction with John Wilson Street. A £1 parking ticket had been bought.
It is alleged that, shortly afterwards, the men mowed down Drummer Rigby in Artillery Place before stabbing him with knives and a machete.
Adebolajo has asked to be known as Mujaahid Abu Hamza in court, while Adebowale has asked to be called Ismail Ibn Abdullah.
Along with murder, they are also each accused of attempting to murder a police officer on the same day, and conspiracy to murder a police officer on or before that day.
They deny all charges but admit possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.
The trial continues.
