IF YOU are growing weary of London’s November-grey streets, try hopping on a train for a dazzling weekend in the City of Lights.

Swapping the hustle and bustle of the Big Smoke for the open sweep of Paris’ boulevards takes just over two hours on a Eurostar train ride from London St Pancras.

We zoomed between the two capital cities at around 160mph, and the journey length was perfect to unwind, pop a mini bottle of Prosecco and put some distance between home life and a Parisian adventure.

Check-in is just 30 minutes before departure and sets the tone for a smooth, fuss-free ride without the fiddle of bagging up liquids or cramming belongings to fit an economy flight baggage limit.

There are 18 services every day from St Pancras to Paris Nord’s terminal with return fares from £69.

I opted for a Standard ticket on the outward journey which was pleasant - although some of the grey seating was a little shabby - with wide views where the traveller can compare the French and English countrysides whizzing past.

On the return journey, I upgraded to Standard Premier class and the spacious seating, low lighting, leather headrests and tasty light meal made for a contented Sunday night feeling.

My hotel was just three stops from Paris Nord on the Metro so the mini-break was packed with sightseeing - and cheese and wine gorging - instead of tedious travel.

Visitors can also wave their Eurostar ticket at participating museums and galleries to enjoy 2 for 1 including at Musée d'Orsay, le Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris, le Jeu de Paume, la Cité de la musique, les Galeries nationales du Grand Palais, Le musée du quai Branly.

My seductive trip to the City of Love was completed on returning to St Pancras where travellers arrive at the foot of statue The Meeting Place and behold the giant lovers in an eternal embrace.
