TREADING the boards reciting the Bard has had a 'transformative' effect on Welling youngsters who wowed Greenwich Theatre audiences with their performance of Macbeth.
Bishop Ridley Primary School pupils spent countless hours rehearsing the Scottish Play and practised their lines everywhere they could.
And then, as part of the Schools Shakespeare Festival, they took to the stage in front of a packed theatre to perform a 30 minute version of the tragedy, condensed from Shakespeare’s original text.
Jenny Chapman, the deputy headteacher of the school in Northumberland Avenue, said: "It’s fantastic, it’s really transformative.
"A lot of my colleagues didn’t believe we could get tiny eight-year-olds spouting Shakespeare but they do.
"As a teacher it is the most rewarding thing you can do because you see these children really grow."
The deputy headteacher added: "They have developed so much confidence."
