CRAY Wanderers stadium plan is attracting cross party support now it has dropped the housing part of the scheme.

The world’s second oldest football team has been battling with Bromley Council as it had wanted to build a 5,153-seat stadium in Sandy Lane, St Paul’s Cray, along with 182 homes on green belt land.

It has now revised its plan to comprise a 2,000 seater stadium, six industrial units and parking for both and will submit a planning application to the council later this month.

Bromley’s Labour and Liberal Democrat parties both now support the bid.

Liberal Democrat councillor David McBride said: “This new application is a huge improvement on the last one, which I could not support.

“I want to thank Cray Wanderers for listening to local opinion and taking my advice by removing the housing from the scheme.”

And the club's chairman Gary Hillman said: “I am very grateful to David and his colleagues for supporting Cray Wanderers efforts to return the club to its roots.

"These new plans remove the greatest stumbling block we faced.

"I hope we can now move forward and make these plans a reality.”
