A GRAVESEND man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after he hit a lamp post on the A2 in Swanscombe last night (Nov 4).

Three people, including the 42-year-old driver, were taken to hospital as a priority.

The road was closed following the collision and reopened at 2.50am today (Nov 5).

A Kent Police spokesperson said: "Kent Police was called at about 10.40pm on Monday 4 November to a report of a single vehicle collision on the A2 coast-bound exit slip road for Ebbsfleet.

"It was reported a vehicle, with three occupants, had collided with a lamppost.

"South East Coast Ambulance Service attended. The driver was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

"A passenger was taken to Kings College Hospital. He is thought to remain in hospital in a stable condition. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

"The exit road was closed following the collision and reopened at 2.50am.

"The driver, a 42-year-old man from Gravesend, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving."

A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said: they received reports of an overturned vehicle on the A2 and sent two cars and three ambulances to the scene. 

He said: "A man aged in his 30s had suspected head injuries. He was taken to King's College Hospital in London. He was fully conscious but taken to hospital as a priority.

"A man in his 40s, believed to be the driver, had also suffered a head injuries. He was taken to Medway Hospital.

"Another passenger, a woman in her 20s, was out and about and walking at the scene but had a leg injury. 

"She was also taken to Medway Hospital as a priority."
