Biggin Hill school knits tiny little hats for the elderly
BIGGIN Hill youngsters came together with family and friends to knit tiny headgear ranging from traditional bobble hats to leprechaun hats and even hats with plaits.
The Big Knit at Charles Darwin School was in support of Age UK, and for every hat knitted and placed on top of an Innocent smoothie bottle twenty five pence went to the charity.
150 were completed and sent off, which combined with tea and cake sales raised £75 for Age UK.
Stephanie Miller, head of art and textiles, organised the event which involved nearly 50 people, aged between 8 and 67.
Left-handed Miss Miller said: "This was an ideal opportunity for our students to learn and develop traditional skills from experts."
"As a child I found it impossible to master and retain the skill but now I have been shown how to knit left-handed and hope this time I will remember."
