Three men injured after falling onto train tracks at Gravesend station
THREE men were injured after falling onto the tracks at Gravesend rail station in the early hours of today (Oct 29).
Police believe two of the men fell while trying to rescue their friend who had slipped from the footbridge onto the embankment.
One 30-year-old man from Gravesend was taken to Darent Valley Hospital where he is being treated for a fractured arm.
The other two men, in their twenties and from the local area, were taken to Kings College Hospital where one is being treated for severe burns while the other has facial injuries and minor burns.
Kent police officers, South East Coast Ambulance Service, Kent Fire and Rescue Services and Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance attended the scene which was reported at 12.14am.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “BTP officers were called to the line near to Gravesend rail station on Tuesday, 29 October following a report that three men had fallen from the embankment onto the line below.
“It is believed that two men fell after trying to rescue their friend who had accidentally slipped from a nearby footbridge onto the embankment.
“Kent Police officers also attended the incident which was reported to BTP at 12.14am.
“Medics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service treated the men for injuries after coming into contact with the live third rail.
“Fire-fighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Services attended and removed the men from the tracks.
“Officers are continuing to investigate to establish the full circumstances although the incident is being treated as non-suspicious.
“The line was reopened at 1.27am.”
