CAMPAIGNERS are hoping David Bowie will sprinkle a little bit of (Ziggy) Stardust on their plan to breathe new life into a dilapidated pub.

The Bromley Arts and Community Initiative (BACI) has emailed the 66-year-old musician to tell him they want to do something similar to what he achieved with his Arts Lab in Beckenham in the late 60s.

But instead of being in the Three Tuns, which is now a Zizzi restaurant, the group wants it to be permanent and in the Grade II listed Royal Bell building in High Street, Bromley.

Under the BACI plan it would be restored and turned into a community building complete with offices, exhibition space, a gallery, a shop, a studio and rehearsal spaces along with a pub.

BACI secretary Amanda Hone sent the email to Mr Bowie (whose Ziggy Stardust album catapulted him to stardom in 1972) last week and is hoping he will reply shortly.

She said: “We are not asking for any money, I emailed him talking about the rich history he has in this area and talking about the Arts Lab.

“We are inspired by what he did and I want to bring him back to his childhood and say what you did with the Arts Lab, we want to do with the Royal Bell.

“We want to add him to our list of supporters.”

As well as trying to recruit the Starman singer the group is looking for an artist or designer to come up with a logo for the initiative.

They are also looking for people who have experience in property or bid writing.

Go to the BACI website or email Amanda Hone if you can help.
