Bexleyheath scout group enjoy 'once in a lifetime' meeting with David Beckham
FIVE Bexleyheath Beaver Scouts are ecstatic after winning a once in a lifetime chance to meet their sporting idols David Beckham and Ellie Simmonds.
The 5th Bexleyheath Beaver Scouts took part in the six-week Sainsbury’s Active Kids Challenge which promotes healthy eating and exercise.
Oliver Taylor, James Berry, Lewis Dampier, Samuel Lawrence and Jamie Lee Browne, aged six to eight, were welcomed to a special Active Kids training session at Lee Valley Athletics centre in Edmonton, north London, on October 4 by Sainsbury's Active Kids ambassadors Beckham and Simmonds.
Six-year-old Oliver said: "It was the best day of my life, Ellie Simmonds has the biggest smile in the world and David Beckham is a very nice man."
Beckham said: "It was brilliant to meet the children from the 5th Bexleyheath Beaver Scouts and to see so many young people genuinely inspired to get involved in sport and activity following last summer".
"I'm passionate about inspiring kids to try a new sport and that's exactly what Active Kids is all about - encouraging kids to try and, hopefully, really enjoy something new."
Quadruple gold Paralympian Simmonds added: "Last summer showed us the power that sport has to inspire, which is why it is so important to make sure the next generation has the opportunity to get involved in sport and exercise in as many ways as possible."
Scout Leader Jackie Hall added: "Both David and Ellie were presented with a 5th scarf and we saw David keep his firmly tucked into his back pocket all day to take home.
"There were so many smiles. It was fantastic."
