1993: The memorial stone erected by the Metropolitan Police in memory of Det-Con John Fordham was vandalised.

Police found bullet marks on the stone in West Kingsdown, not far from the spot where Fordham was stabbled to death.

1943: Signposts, which had been in store for more than three years, were re-erected all over Kent. As the fear of invasion receded many factories in North Kent, producing vital tools and machines for the war effort, were allowed to listen to Music While You Work. It was reported that production increased by 15 per cent for the hour following the broadcast.

1913: A hydro-aeroplane base was built on marsh land on the Isle of Grain with the responsibility of defending the Thames Estuary as concern grew over the continuing German naval build-up. Almost £20,000 was earmarked by the Admiralty for the work.
