Meet Father Christmas and his reindeer in Orpington next month
FATHER Christmas and three real reindeer will stop off in Orpington next month as an evening of festivities kick-starts the countdown to Christmas.
As darkness falls on November 20 the white light Cone D'argent tree on the war memorial roundabout will illuminate and white Christmas lights will festoon the High Street.
Meanwhile, the Drayhorse Shires that appeared in the London Olympic Games opening ceremony will offer rides in their Christmas coach.
There will be an opportunity for everyone to join local school children and local choirs in singing traditional Christmas music around the main stage in the square outside the library.
And a performance of popular, contemporary songs by the 60-strong Orpington Rock Choir will follow.
Children’s fairground rides and the Christmas market stalls offering crafts and gift ideas are set line the high street, with stores keeping their doors open late to welcome early Christmas shoppers.
And bars and restaurants will be offering festive fayre.
A 10 minute firework display from the roof of the Walnuts Shopping Centre will cap off the evening, set to the White Christmas theme.
The event will start at 4pm and last until 7pm, and is being arranged by Orpington 1st BID (Business Improvement District) company.

What is Orpington 1st?
Orpington 1st is a collective of businesses which in February voted yes to creating a business improvement district (BID) for the town centre, to re-invigorate the area.
The BID is a partnership between Bromley Council and the Orpington 1st members to develop projects and services to benefit the traders in the High Street area.
It is developed, managed and paid for by the members through an additional levy calculated on the business rates valuation.
