“THERE will be no escape for criminals today” is the message from the Met Police as Operation Big Wing gets underway this morning.

A day of visible policing will be carried out across Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham in a bid to tackle criminals who harm London’s communities.

Activities being carried out include the execution of warrants and the arresting of those on outstanding warrants.

People involved in burglary, robbery, handling stolen goods and theft will also be a focus as part of the crackdown, whilst uninsured drivers will be clocked by officers using ANPR checks.

Bromley Police Chief Inspector Andy Furphy said: "Operation Big Wing is both reinforcing what we do on daily basis in targeting criminals head-on and providing further public reassurance through visible high impact policing.

“We will be using a huge range of tactics to stop thieves, showing residents that we have listened to their concerns and we are committed to taking robust preventative and disruptive action to stop this criminal activity and make our communities safer.

“Today is also about warning those breaking the law and engaging in criminal activity that we will be doing everything we can to stop them and put them before the courts.”
