UPDATE: London Bridge to New Cross overrunning engineering works will cause Southeastern delays until 8pm
SOUTHEASTERN has apologised for the Monday morning meltdown of its services due to overrunning Network Rail engineering work between New Cross and London Bridge.
The work meant services have been cancelled, delayed or diverted at short notice, with ouraged commuters venting their fury on Twitter.
Disruption is expected until around 8pm and is also affecting First Capital Connect.
Problems are still reported on Southeastern between Lewisham and Cannon Street, between Lewisham and London Charing Cross, between Charlton and Cannon Street and between Charlton and London Charing Cross.
Services via London Bridge are subject to delays of up to 80 minutes and cancellations.
Docklands Light Railway, London Underground and Tramlink services are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice.
In a letter today, Southeastern's public affairs manager Mike Gibson said: "On behalf of Southeastern, please accept my apologies for the disruption to services this morning.
"This was due to over running Network Rail engineering work between New Cross and London Bridge which, compounded by failure to Network Rail signalling systems, affected many of our services into London and caused severe disruption and diversions.
"Apology posters will be up at stations and passengers whose journeys were delayed by 30 minutes or more are entitled to compensation.
"We are very sorry if you or those you represent were delayed. As you might imagine we received a large number of emails, ‘phone calls and tweets from passengers and Managing Director Charles Horton has made your views known to Network Rail."
