A MAN has died in a suspected suicide at Petts Wood Station after reportedly jumping off the footbridge and being hit by a train.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the scene at around 11.30am this morning (October 19) but could not save the patient.

He has not been formally identified but he is believed to be in his late teens or early 20s.

Robert Johns, 17, was on the train which hit the man and told News Shopper: “I saw the driver and she looked like she was in shock.

“It is a shock because I never would have expected it to happen here.”

And Zara Suleyman ran to the footbridge when she saw people running past Zara, her hair and beauty salon.

She said: “I came to work this morning and did not expect to see that.

“It is a shock and it is scary.”

Petts Wood Café waiter Ozzy Bakici said: “I wonder why people do those kind of things.

“Customers came in including a little girl who was crying. It’s not good for little kids to see those kind of things.

“The guy was apparently a young lad, I do not think he was a teenager, more of a man like a young adult.”

A British Transport Police says the incident is being treated as non suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
