A CYCLIST was rushed to hospital after being hit by a car in Sydenham during this morning’s rush hour.
Emergency services were called to the A212 Sydenham Road, at the junction with Mayow Road, at 7.10am to reports of a collision involving a car and a cyclist.
A 30-year-old man was rushed to Kings College Hospital in London as a priority following the incident, suffering from minor head injuries.
He was conscious and breathing at the time.
This morning, the road was sealed off and the bicycle lay crumpled in the road, with a pile of clothes next to it and tyre marks visible on the tarmac.
A black Toyota Yarris with a smashed windscreen and a Baby on Board sticker in the back was being moved to the side of the high street.
Shopkeepers said a number of people had gathered to help the man, including an off-duty police officer, and covered him in a sheet until ambulance crews arrived.
Police have denied the accident was a hit and run, though they say no arrests have been made.
A witness said: "I saw a wrecked bicycle and some clothes on the tarmac.
"I don't know the extent of any injury because only the police was around there when I walked past.
"It was a very grim scene."
London Ambulance Service sent an ambulance crew and a responder in a car to the scene and the road was shut in both directions after 7.45am.
All roads have since reopened.
