Dartford MP the latest to slam Waitrose decision to close in the town
DARTFORD’S MP Gareth Johnson is the latest to slam Waitrose’s proposal to close its store in Dartford.
News Shopper reported last week how the supermarket giant said the store at the Orchards Shopping Centre was no longer “commercially sustainable” and could close as soon as March next year.
Mr Johnson said: “I have spoken to Waitrose about the proposed closure and made my disappointment clear to them.
“I that Waitrose may be able, even at this stage, to salvage the store.
He added: “My understanding is Waitrose took on the Dartford store with others that were more profitable so there have always been challenges in keeping the store open.
“Sadly there are some that will use this proposed closure to criticise Dartford.
“Unemployment in the town has been falling throughout the year but that will not stop some people from using this news to try and undermine our town.”
