Boris Johnson inspired design sees Langley Park School for Girls pupil Beau Scarlett-Pitt win Fashion Awareness Direct award
WHEN you think of fashion you might not immediately think Boris Johnson, rusty train tracks and pigeons.
But these three things inspired Beckenham student Beau Scarlett-Pitt to create an outfit which mesmerised the judges and audience at a London Fashion Week catwalk show.
She used them for inspiration for the Fashion Awareness Direct awards show after being given the brief of designing garments which symbolised the London spirit and the environment that surrounds them.
This task was the conclusion of weeks of hard work for the 17-year-old and saw her win the FAD awards.
She is now looking forward to her prize, a placement at award sponsors George at ASDA.
The Langley Park School for Girls pupil said: "I had wanted to go to London Fashion Week for so long and to finally be there and at a show where my design was literally walking down the catwalk was just marvellous.
"Thank you so much to FAD who has given so many young people like myself fantastic opportunities to get in to the fashion industry.
"Winning the junior awards has given me the opportunity to meet and network with some amazing people from the industry.
"It’s been amazing."
The FAD Junior Awards catwalk show is the conclusion of Fashion Futures, a series of workshops involving more than 100 students, aged 16 to 19, from across London.
They gained valuable insight and skills culminating in them designing their own garments from scratch.
The best 20 took part in the FAD Summer School where they put together a collection of pieces fit for London Fashion Week before taking part in the catwalk show.
Students created their garments around the theme of the here and now - objects, people and themes that symbolised the London spirit and the environment that surrounds them.
FAD is a creative charity which aims to give youngsters an insight into the industry while using fashion to give them the skills, confidence and motivation to succeed in the future.
