“If only you could tell if everyone in this carriage was single,” reads the advert suspended above a bunch of weary (and presumably dateless) commuters.

For everyone that's seen this advert you'll know exactly what it tells you to do: go online and find a partner.

Now as a London dating coach I have to question the logic of seeing someone you fancy sat one foot away from you, then going onto the internet to find them.

What's so wrong with 'hello?'

“The fact that it's on the tube!” I hear you thinking.

Well in that case I've got a proposition for you: why don't you make a deal with yourself to say ‘hi’, ‘good morning’ or 'is the northern line running late today?' to one person on the tube that you fancy this week.

If it all goes horribly wrong and you're arrested for trying to establish human contact I’ll happily take full responsibility; but I'll never recommend using the internet before a smile, a handshake and a 'how you doing?'
