PRIMARY school children in Bexley are achieving above the national average in exams, according to the latest figures.

Statistics published by the Department for Education show 81 per cent of Bexley pupils achieved level four or above in reading, writing and mathematics, which is higher than the national average of 76 per cent.

Bexley’s 2013 figure shows a four per cent improvement on students taking the same exams last year.

Bexley Council’s cabinet member for education Councillor John Fuller said: "The figures for Bexley are excellent, especially when compared to the results from across the country.

“The improvement from last year is also great news.

“Our schools have worked extremely hard in order to achieve these results and staff and pupils have every right to feel extremely proud."
