A 24-YEAR-OLD man was rushed to hospital after being stabbed outside a New Cross pub.

Police were called to News Cross Road on September 22 at around 2am to reports of a man stabbed outside the New Cross Inn.

He was taken to a central London hospital after suffering a deep stab wound to his torso. His condition is currently stable.

Officers now want to trace a man, who ran from the scene towards Jerningham Road and into Musgrave Road.

He is described as white, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build and in his early twenties with blonde hair. He was wearing an orange top and was drinking in the same pub as the victim prior to the attack.

Detective Inspector Lesley Hamilton from Lewisham CID said: "We know that it was busy on New Cross Road on the night of this incident and that there are a number of key witnesses out there who saw what happened.

"I am specifically appealing to pub and club goers and students from Goldsmiths College who I believe were at the scene or nearby and may hold some vital information about what happened."

She added: "The brutality and aggression used during this attack could have potentially cost a young man his life. Anyone with information should assist police and contact Lewisham CID in the strictest confidence."
