Greenwich Comedy Festival unveils bumper line-up
AFTER much drama and speculation, the line-up has been announced for Greenwich Comedy Festival.
The borough will host top-name comedians including Alexei Sayle, Richard Herring, David O’Doherty and Arthur Smith over the weekend of November 2 and 3.
Bringing the festival to Greenwich has been no mean feat and at one stage it looked like it would have to move out to Brick Lane. This year, it forms part of the Royal Greenwich Festivals.
Organiser Cass Briggs said: “We’re so pleased to be presenting these shows as we really missed not having the festival earlier in the year.
“This weekender is a great way of continuing to bring amazing comedy to the borough as we work towards bringing an even bigger festival back next summer.”
There will be shows for all ages with the popular Comedy 4 Kids at The Tramshed and Greenwich Theatre, which also hosts big names including Richard Herring, Aisling Bea, Pete Firman, David O’Doherty and Alexei Sayle.
The award-winning Sunday Special at Up the Creek will hold a special all-dayer on November 7 featuring Mark Watson, Tony Law, Andrew Maxwell, Sara Pascoe and some very special guests.
A fringe programme includes some free shows, while The Monster Comedy Shed will be at Greenwich Market and legendary grump Arthur Smith will lead an Alternative Greenwich Tour.
Aspiring comics will be able to get in on the action at The Comedy Academy and Greenwich Picturehouse – hosting Josie Long – and Woolwich’s Big Screen both holding events.
