AN ELTHAM incident which sparked online rumours of abduction and rape is no longer being investigated by police.

News of the alleged incident had circulated on Facebook, with claims that a girl had been abducted, raped and dumped at the Yorkshire Grey McDonald's by three balaclava-clad men in a transit van.

It is understood that a police cordon in Foxhole Road was linked to the subsequent investigation.

But a spokeswoman for Greenwich police said: "We can confirm that officers from Sapphire were investigating an allegation of rape that was made to police on September 4.

"Following the information received and a full investigation, the case is now closed."
