Video: Annual Bexley donkey derby draws runners and riders to Danson Park
BEXLEY’s annual donkey derby drew plenty of willing runners and riders to Danson Park.
The polo field by Danson Lane was packed with around 1,500 people eager to catch one of the seven races for under 16-year-olds.
Jake Ellaway, 15, was soon a favourite at the tote as punters piled in for a small flutter on the young jockey who eventually swept to victory in four of the contests while Katie Coppin, 13, took the crown in race two.
Organised by the Welling Round Table, the 35th annual derby on Sunday featured donkey rides for youngsters, a funfair, beer tent, stalls and exhibitions, food and ice cream.
Organiser Kerry Allon said: "It was a lovely day and for us to make £600 for the Round Table charity fund was great.
"It was all good fun with kids coming off left, right and centre and lots of tears when they fell off but no one was hurt and they were back on for the next race."
