A GREENWICH church is holding events to celebrate the diamond anniversary of its restoration in 1953.
Sir Albert Richardson was appointed architect of St Alfege’s restoration in 1941, after incendiary bombs in the roof caused timber and molten metal to cave into the nave, destroying part of the church.
The church is commemorating the restoration with events, talks and exhibitions over the next three months.
Events to look out for are the war damage and restoration exhibition taking place in the church from September 21 to October 7 displaying pictures and drawings from Richardson’s restoration.
There is also fun for all the family with a post war tea dance being held in the church on November 2. Book a £5 ticket in advance at the church office.
