Blackheath Society archive reveals history of the heath
BLACKHEATH'S history will be chronicled through photographs and drawings in a special exhibition at the end of this month.
Following a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, the Blackheath Society is using its extensive archive to cover the heath through the ages, from sports to notable buildings.
Taking place at Blackheath Halls, a timeline will run round the displays on the ground floor, bringing historical events to life.
Material provided from Blackheath High, John Ball and St Margaret’s have also carried out their own research projects and some of their material will be included.
John Bartram from the society said: "The exhibition is just one way in which the Society will be making the photographs generally available to the public, and a dedicated archive website will be also launched on September 23, giving the opportunity to browse all the images of the heath.
"Also planned for the autumn is a new guide about Heath walks called Walking the Heath."
The free exhibition is open from September 24 and runs until September 29.
