Man guilty of Lewisham High Street murder of Thierry Christian-Gnanakumar
A 24-YEAR-OLD man has today been found guilty of murdering a Catford student who was beaten to death in Lewisham High Street.
Kohulan Podiappuhamey was part of a mob likened to a “pack of animals” who set on Thierry Christian-Gnanakumar using an arsenal of weapons on November 10 last year.
Podippuhamey was found guilty of murder and violent disorder by an Old Bailey jury on September 4.
He is one of eight men – who, like the victim, are all of Sri Lankan Tamil origin - currently on trial for the 22-year-old’s murder.
Third year biomedical science student Thierry, who had been out celebrating a friend’s birthday, was found by emergency services outside Lewisham Library at 9.20pm. He died in hospital the following day.
The jury is out and considering their verdicts on the other seven defendants.
Podiappuhamey’s sentencing date is yet to be announced.
