Smokers are the most interesting people so stop criticising us: Opinion
11:49am Wednesday 4th September 2013 in News
LET’S stop treating the poor smoker like some sort of serial killer. Let’s stop kidding ourselves a whiff of someone’s cigarette smoke is going to make the world come to an end.
Years ago everybody smoked, it was positively encouraged. There were ashtrays on the bedside cabinets in hospital. No one batted an eye around smokers. It actually did not bother anyone.
Ironically, the same people who go crazy about a bit of cigarette smoke wafting their way are quite happily polluting the air in their 4x4s, sitting outside schools with their engines running while dropping off their little darlings who are incapable of walking five yards to school.
And have you noticed the ones who do “walk” to school are on scooters.
We are raising a nation who will not know how to walk with one foot in front of the other – and what about ADHD, asthma, eczema and all these other problems kids seem to be plagued with nowadays? Who doesn’t know someone these days who hasn’t survived cancer?
This is all a government scaremongering campaign to deviate our silly minds away from more important matters like the poison they are allowed to put in our food. Why are people not getting hysterical about additives, preservatives, colourings and chemicals or about cattle pumped full of antibiotics, or infected with TB finding its way into the food chain – albeit “only” school and hospital food so far.
Are people so stupid they need the government to tell them what to get angry about? If you’re going to get angry, get angry about something worthwhile.
The smoking ban has actually encouraged more youngsters to take it up. They want to be part of the “fun” people outside having a fag. I’m not saying smoking is a good thing, but there’s no doubt us smokers are more laid back and interesting than the rest of you poor saps.
