Northfleet welder who led police on chase through Bexley to be sentenced
A NORTHFLEET welder who led a late-night police chase through Bexley is to be sentenced on Thursday.
Barry Banfield, of Beresford Road, Northfleet, stole a van in Abbey Wood before leading a five-mile police pursuit shortly after 10pm on August 13.
The 39-year-old failed to stop for police while turning the stolen white Ford transit into Dhalia Road from Bracondale Road.
He sped off towards Bexleyheath before abandoning the vehicle in Vicarage Road in Bexley.
Banfield was arrested in the lane after being caught by officers with help from a Met helicopter.
Appearing via video link at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on August 15, Banfield pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated taking of a motor vehicle, driving without insurance and driving whilst disqualified.
He will be sentenced at 10am at Bromley Magistrates’ Court.
