A MET Police investigation into Labour’s selection of a Unite official for the Lewisham Deptford seat has found no evidence of wrongdoing.

The Tory police referral following Brockley Councillor Vicky Foxcroft’s selection for the safe seat in May has been branded a political “stunt” by Labour.

MP for Bromley and Chislehurst Bob Neill wrote to Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe urging an investigation saying there were areas of “particular concern”.

The call came after allegations of irregularities in a candidate selection race in Falkirk, which had called into question Labour's relationship with the unions.

A London Labour Party spokesman said: “When Bob Neill wrote to the Metropolitan Police, Labour said this was a stunt and there was no evidence to support his ridiculous and untrue claims.

“Now the Met’s Special Investigation Team have confirmed there is no evidence of any criminality, Bob Neill and the Conservative Party should apologise to the police for wasting their time, and to Londoners for wasting valuable police resources on a political stunt.”

A Met Police spokesman said: “This matter has now been assessed and there is no evidence of any offences. No further action by the police.”

News Shopper is awaiting a comment from Mr Neill.
