George Verrier murder suspect bailed by police
A TEENAGER who was arrested on suspicion of murdering 17-year-old George Verrier in Bromley has been bailed pending further enquiries.
The suspect, who is also 17, was arrested after George died in hospital on Sunday evening (September 1).
He has been bailed to appear pending further enquiries to a date in late October.
Police were first called to reports of a fight involving around 20 people in Southborough Road, Bromley, at the junction with Blenheim Rd at around 12.45am on Sunday.
Officers gave George first aid to George but he declined to be taken to hospital and London Ambulance Service did not attend the scene.
Police were later called at around 9.30am the same day to reports of the same youth being found unconscious at his friend’s house in Ferndale, Bromley.
London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance also attended and the Crystal Palace fan was taken to an east London hospital. He died in hospital at 6.11pm that day.
A post mortem examination took place at the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough, yesterday and gave cause of death as a head injury.
Investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Diane Tudway, from the Met’s homicide and serious crime command, said: "Police were called to a disturbance at Southborough Road and the junction with Blenheim Road, Bromley, about 12.45am on Sunday, September 1.
"If you were driving along that road you may have driven past that disturbance involving approximately 20 people.
"A young man was assaulted and he later died of his injuries.
“I would encourage anyone with information that may help investigating officers piece together what happened that evening to get in touch with us immediately."
Any witnesses to the assault or anyone who has any information is asked to call the police on 020 8721 4005 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
The Met has made a voluntary referral to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) to assess the actions of the officers who attended the scene when dealing with a victim of assault in Southborough Road, Bromley at the junction with Blenheim Rd, Bromley, on September 1.
This referral follows the launch of a murder investigation following the death of George Verrier.
