Man rescued from Thames near Gravesend at 3am
A MAN was pulled from the Thames in Gravesend in the middle of the night after his cries for help were heard.
Gravesend’s RNLI lifeboat rushed to Royal Terrace Pier at 3.32am on Wednesday to reports of a man struggling in the water.
The man was found underneath the pier and was pulled to safety after clinging onto the boat lift and a life ring the crew threw to him.
A Port of London Authority (PLA) spokesman said: “From then on it was very much a joint effort with our colleagues in the RNLI.
“It was a tricky place to reach and he was quite a long way below where our people were on the pontoon – he was recovered alive, I am pleased to say.”
After the man was pulled from the water by the lifeboat and PLA crew, the team him in blankets and placed him on a stretcher before returning to land.
A South East Coast Ambulance Service crew then took him to hospital.
