LEWISHAM Police are appealing for witnesses to an attack outside a pub in New Cross Road in the early hours of Saturday (August 24).

Officers found two men suffering from injuries to the head and face outside The Marquis of Granby pub at 3.20am.

The victims, both aged 50, claim they were attacked by a group of up to seven men after trying to stop another man from being assaulted.

DC Kay, of Lewisham CID: "The area in which the assault took place is very near to a busy night club and therefore, despite the late hour, there are likely to have been a number of people in the vicinity who can assist us with our enquiries."

The suspects are described as being aged between 20 and 30, two of whom were black, one mixed race who was wearing sunglasses, and the rest white.
