A MAN has died after crashing into a wall in Sydenham on Sunday (Aug 25).

Aaron Mortley drove into a wall in the front garden of a block of flats in Mayow Road.

Philip Voyzey, 44, who lives in the block of flats, said: "We were woken up by a God almighty noise, we thought the roof had caved in.

"My flatmate ran into my room and we looked out the window and there was a black car outside with all this wood debris.

"My flatmate said 'we have to help' and a few of us went down.

"An off duty paramedic had pulled up outside.

"We tried to get the guy out of the car but he was trapped. All the ambulances and air ambulance came.

"They managed to get him out and worked him on for a bit but he didn't make it.

"We don't know what happened but we think he spun around in the road and was crushed by the pillar (in the front garden)."

A LAS spokeswoman added: "We sent an ambulance crew, two single responders in cars, a duty officer and London’s Air Ambulance team in a car to the scene.

"The patient - a man - was in cardiac arrest.

"Sadly, despite extensive efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the doctor from the air ambulance."
