PICTURED: 'Acid attacks' cost Swanscombe car owners thousands
A SPATE of “malicious and mean-spirited” attacks has caused thousands of pounds of damage to cars in Swanscombe.
One of the victims came out of his house to discover the paintwork of his black Peugeot 206 bubbled and blistered after a corrosive substance has been poured over the roof and bonnet.
The attack happened while the car was parked on his driveway in Trebble Road between 10pm on August 10 and 10am the following day and is estimated to cost around £1,000 to repair.
More than £4,000 of damage was caused to a blue metallic Audi Q5 parked on a nearby driveway in the same road, with the paintwork bubbled and a line melted through the spoiler.
Half a mile away, a silver Vauxhall Corsa (pictured) parked in a car park in The Grove had liquid poured over it the previous night.
In this case, the petrol tank had been destroyed after sugar had been poured into it, causing damage between £1,000 and £2,000.
Investigating officer, PC Danea Charleston of Kent Police, said: “Causing this sort of damage is malicious and mean-spirited, and has cost these owners thousands of pounds in repair.
“I am appealing for anybody who may have seen someone acting suspiciously or who has any information whatsoever about any of these incidents to come forward to me."
Anybody with information should call PC Charleston on 01474 366601, or contact Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
