Welling community centre could extend hours
PLANS to extend a Welling community centre’s opening hours are to be ruled on by Bexley Council later this month.
Currently the hall in Warwick Road only opens between 5.30pm to 9.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm Saturday and 9am to 6pm on Sundays.
First Welling Scout Group has submitted an application to extend those hours to 8am to 11pm Monday to Sunday.
A Scout Group spokesman said: “This will allow the hall to be used as a community venue for groups such as slimming clubs, martial arts, Tai Chi and historical societies, all of which we have received enquiries from.
“The extended later opening will also allow for adult training for the local scout borough and for Scouting Committee and leader meetings to take place.”
Fifteen letters of support have been received from local residents compared to four letters of objection.
The proposal will be ruled on by the council’s planning committee during a meeting at the Civic Offices in Bexleyheath on August 29.
