UPDATE: Bexleyheath Academy teacher Stuart Kerner appears in court charged with child sex offences
A TEACHER at Bexleyheath Academy has appeared in court this morning charged with 13 counts of sexual activity with a child.
Stuart Kerner, 42, of Russett Close, Aylesford, Kent, was charged on August 1 and appeared at Bexley Magistrates' Court today.
Police say the majority of the alleged offences took place at the school, in Woolwich Road, between March 2011 and October last year.
Offences are also alleged to have been committed at Kerner’s home address.
Kerner, who was originally arrested on January 28 this year, is listed on the school's website as assistant vice principal.
He was released on conditional bail to attend Inner London Crown Court on September 2.
A statement released by Bexleyheath Academy's principal Carl Wakefield said: "This academy and our students and staff have been through a great deal over the past six months but at all times stayed strong and stood together in the face of such adversity and pain.
"I want to reassure our parents and carers this situation will prove to be no different and we will come through what will be without doubt, another very challenging period."
