MUHAMMAD is the most popular boys’ name in London, research has revealed.

Figures released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) yesterday (August 12) showed this is the favourite in the region during 2012 and a different spelling of the name name – Mohammed – came fourth.

Harry remained top while Oliver and Jack came third and fourth respectively in England and Wales.

For girls, Amelia continued to be the favourite overall name beating Olivia and Jessica.

Mia and Isla replaced Ruby and Grace in the top 10 for baby girls climbing from numbers 13 and 15 to numbers 7 and 8 respectively.

In Wales, Jacob was the most popular name for baby boys, replacing Oliver while Amelia replaced Lily in the top spot for girls.
