TWO men from Orpington who hijacked a delivery lorry with a hammer and robbed £7,000 worth of tobacco and cigarettes have been jailed for a total of 13 years.
Amit Hindocha, aged 37, of Quilter Road, pleaded guilty to robbery and was jailed for seven years.
Charlie Hone, aged 19, of Carew Way, pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced to six years in a young offenders’ institution.
On April 10 at about 9.45am, a driver was making deliveries in Eldred Drive, Orpington when a car drove up.
Two men ran around to the rear of the lorry, threatening the driver with a small hammer and shouting at him to give them the tobacco.
They hit him on the leg, before stealing a number of bags from the lorry.
Hindocha and Hone were quickly identified as suspects, with Hindocha being arrested at his home address the following day and Hone being arrested on May 9.
Both were sentenced at Southwark Crown Court.
The court ordered further charges against Hindocha of having an offensive weapon and assault to remain on file.
