AN ANIMAL hospital is appealing for help tracing the owners of a one-eared stray cat who was found in a Mottingham basement.
The white-and-black puss, nicknamed Teddy by vets, is thought to be around 12-years-old and was found in Sidcup Road on July 17.
He was already missing an ear following skin cancer surgery and had to have his second removed when more cancerous tissue was discovered by vets at Blue Cross Animal Hospital in Victoria.
Vets believe the feline is a well-loved pet because of his earlier treatment and are seeking his owners.
The charity, which found a home for the moggie nicknamed Voldemog because of his likeness to the Harry Potter villain, is also warning cat owners of the dangers of their light-coloured pets sunbathing.
Chief Vet at Blue Cross Mark Bossley said: "Although Teddy should live happily for many years to come, skin cancer is a very serious condition that can be prevented.
“Cats should be kept out of the sun as much as possible on hot days, indoors if possible or at least in the shade."
He went on to say pet owners should see their vet if they notice any skin pigmentation change and said there is pet-friendly sun block available to apply to areas such as their ears and nose.
Anyone with information about Teddy is asked to contact Blue Cross on 0300 777 1890 and proof of ownership, such as photographs or vet records will be requested.
He will be in foster care while recovering from his latest surgery and transferred to a Blue Cross rehoming centre if his owner does not come forward.
