TWO Lewisham councillors will be lacing up their running shoes in the heat today (July 21) to race 5km for the Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign.
The pair of Labour councillors, from Blackheath and Whitefoot wards, are competing in the Tunnel 2 Towers race which winds from Southwark Park, through the Rotherhithe Tunnel to finish in Canary Wharf.
The runners are drumming up funds for the high-profile campaign to save Lewisham Hospital’s threatened maternity and A&E services which campaigners and Lewisham Council recently took to the High Court.
Whitefoot ward councillor Councillor Mark Ingleby said: "All Lewisham Councillors are right behind the massive campaign to save our successful local hospital.
“I hope local residents can get behind Kevin and me to help us on our way!"
While Blackheath ward’s Cllr Kevin Bonavia added: "Apart from trying to help with fundraising for the campaign, we want to remind everyone, especially the Government, that the campaign to save Lewisham Hospital goes on undaunted.
“There is so much at stake here for all of us across Lewisham and elsewhere."
