POLICE are today trying to identify the body of a man found in the Thames yesterday.
Officers were called to Royal Terrace Pier at 4.30pm to reports of a discovery close to where Nathan Lane went missing.
The 28-year-old was swept away on Sunday while trying to rescue a young girl, close to Gordon Promenade.
Gravesend RNLI was despatched at around 4.15pm.
A spokesman said: "The lifeboat was tasked to reports of a sighting of a person in the water mid channel between Tilbury International Ferry Terminal on the north shore and West Street Pier on the south shore.
"The body was recovered and handed over to Kent Police.
"The lifeboat was then stood down and returned to station."
