A CATFORD boozer has been forced to adopt extra security after armed police were called in.

Rushey Green pub Goose on the Green was targeted by officers in May after reports of a group of men armed with a knife and another man with a firearm, a Lewisham Council licensing committee heard.

A plain clothes dog unit and police helicopter were called in. Amred officers supported unarmed police who went to the smoking garden to deal with the problem group because door staff were too frightened to search the men.

Searches uncovered drugs, believed to be cannabis, and an expendable baton.

Following the committee hearing last week, the pub will have to keep 24-hour CCTV for one month and have two door staff on duty during Friday and Saturday evenings.

Customers must also be randomly searched and, if they refuse, barred from entry.
