PLUMSTEAD firefighters were amongst the crews called to a tower block blaze in Bromley by Bow this afternoon (July 14).

The crew joined colleagues from Peckham, Stratford, Poplar, Shoreditch, Kingsland, Bow, Barking, Silvertown, Millwall, and Bethnal Green fire stations to fight the fire which started at around 1.20pm.

It affected a large part of a flat on the fifth floor and a smaller part of a flat on the sixth floor.

The firefighters had the fire under control by around 2.50pm.

Two hundred people got out of the building themselves and three people were rescued following fire survival guidance calls to the London Fire Brigade’s 999 control team.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

When the fire started there were several reports on social media site Twitter which stated it was in Bromley as the address of the block of flats in Bromley by Bow is a road called Bromley High Street.
