A SUMMER fun day in Grove Park was also the chance to celebrate the area's regeneration.

Taking place at the Ringway Centre and community gardens in Baring Road, there was a host of entertainment on offer from steel bands to table tennis tournaments.

People from the area were also the All Our Stories oral history project which will form part of the area's heritage and literary trail.

Lewisham East MP Heidi Alexander launched a time capsule while the day also saw the official opening of a wood named after Jeff Cox - first chairman of the Grove Park Community Group.

Current chairman Stephen Kenny said: "It was a day of fun and a milestone in showing residents and visitors alike what plans we have for the regeneration of Grove Park.

"Saving the Baring Hall Hotel pub from demolition was a key turning point in local history and now we can demonstrate how our rich local heritage will help regenerate our town centre."
