FIREFIGHTERS have tackled a blaze in a Catford shed which had two highly flammable gas cylinders inside.

Eight people fled the fire in Dowanhill Road where two fire engines from Forest Hill attended after the brigade was called at 2.06pm.

The crews brought the flames under control around 3.15pm and cooled down the propane gas cylinders which could have exploded.

The shed is reported to have been entirely destroyed by the fire and a conservatory has also been 50 per cent damaged. There are no injuries reported.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 2.06pm. A shed has been 100 per cent damaged bytthe fire and a conservatory has been 50 per cent damaged.

“Two propane cylinders involved were cooled down because they can explode.

“Around eight people self evacuated before we arrived.”
