A LORRY crash is causing severe delays on the M25 this morning.

Emergency services were called to the collision in the roadworks area between J5 and J6 at about 8am.

Firefighters freed a man who was trapped by the steering wheel in his cab.

The road was closed between J5 for Sevenoaks and J6 for Clacket Lane services while the air ambulance landed.

The man was taken by land ambulance to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill suffering from a back injury.

All lanes reopened anticlockwise at 8.45am but one lane remain closed on the clockwise carriagway until about 10am.

There are heavy tailbacks on the M25 up to J4 for Orpington and to J7 for the M23.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "It is reported that two HGVs were involved in the collision. A 24 Tonne Class 2 Mercedes and a 7.5 tonne white HGV. One of the vehicles was transporting fresh fish."

Motorists are being warned to avoid the area.
