A NEW town sign has been unveiled in Beckenham town centre.

The ceremony took place on Saturday (July 6) at Thornton’s Corner in the High Street and the area was a hive of activity.

Businesses were offering giveaways and a town crier even made an appearance.

Residents can also look forward to new notice boards, street furniture and litter bins with improvements planned to ease congestion at the junction of the High Street, Rectory Road and Station Road.

Portfolio holder for renewal and recreation Councillor Peter Morgan said: "The unveiling of signs welcoming visitors at key junctures in the town centre heralds the start of more improvements to Beckenham.

"We’d like to thank traders in the High Street for their involvement on the day with giveaways and support.

"We are committed to supporting High Streets in the borough and will do all we can to encourage people to spend time in the town centre."
