AN ‘UNLOVED’ street which has ‘languished for decades’ is set to get the kiss of life thanks to a £25,000 regeneration grant.

Bromley Council decided to give the Anerley Regeneration Project (ARP) a tenth of its total budget from its shopping parades improvement initiative fund after hearing its plan for Anerley Road.

After polling people who live nearby, ARP have decided to spend the money on pavement re-laying and cleaning, external redecoration of a number of shops and long-empty units and more rubbish bins.

Two murals depicting the area’s heritage are going to be painted, a flower bed will be replanted and a bench will be relocated.

Improved street lighting has already been installed and the road’s communal recycling facilities will be upgraded later this year.

Meanwhile, the parade’s largest store, Tesco Express, has promised to smarten up its own act in keeping with the new-look street.

ARP spokeswoman Gill Wing said: “This is the boost Anerley Road has needed for decades.

“Residents, traders and commuters travelling via Crystal Palace station will begin to see the first of the improvements in the coming months.

“We hope it will restore a sense of pride and encourage people to renew their support for a street that has languished unloved for too long.

‘We are grateful to Bromley Council for its support and for granting us the maximum sum available to an individual project from a total borough-wide pot – open to potential bids from 76 parades – of £250,000.

“It is heartening to see the more urban north of the borough being helped to recover from decline.”
