LIBRARY users in Bexley can now renew their books, even when their local library is shut.

The introduction of a new library management system earlier this year allows users to renew their books online or via a telephone renewal line 24 hours, seven days a week.

A further improvement allows customers to receive notifications a book is overdue by email, telephone call, text message or post.

Bexley Council’s cabinet member responsible for libraries Councillor Don Massey said: "I am very pleased that we are now able to offer these improved services to library customers.

“The fact that they will benefit from better and more convenient services and we will reduce our costs demonstrates our determination to give local people value for money.

"I hope that improved services will encourage even more people to take advantage of the fantastic services available in our libraries."
